Albert Shuler is a native of Calhoun County, SC. He graduated from Claflin University, Orangeburg, SC, with a BA in French and a minor in Religion and Philosophy. He attended the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia.  He received his Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School.

Prior to his appointment here at New Creation in Durham, Albert has served churches in Fuquay-Varina, Oxford, Fayetteville, Chapel Hill, and Greenville, NC. He was on the conference staff for two years and served eight years as district superintendent in the Durham District.

He has been elected as a delegate to the General Conference of the United Methodist Church six times and as a delegate to the Southeastern Jurisdiction Conference seven times. He was selected to attend two World Methodist Conferences (Nairobi, Kenya, and Brighton, England).

He was elected to be a director of the General Board of Global Ministries and served eight years. He chaired the personnel committee. He was also elected as a director of the General Board of Discipleship where he was on the Upper Room Division. He chaired the Racial and Ethnic Funding Committee.

While in Elizabeth City, Albert served on and chaired the Community Relations Committee and served on the board of directors of the regional Chamber of Commerce. While in Greenville, he chaired "10 Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness in Greenville and Pitt County.
